Introduction

It goes to the credit of sir Henry Daly that the Indore Residency school was

established in 1870 to educate the sons of the chiefs of central India in the

building to the east of the Indore residency .

This school attained the status of a college in 1885 . A full time Principal was

appointed and the College was financed by the government of India in 1876 .

The Principal was also entrusted the task of guiding the education of the sons

and relatives of the chiefs and have general supervision over schools in

Malwa . A boarding House and a bungalow for the residence of the Principal

were constructed in 1878 . The first principal of the Indore Residency Scholl

was Mr. Aberigh Mackay , He was appointed by the Government of India.

In 1940 the college underwent a major change of policy and was converted

into a full-fledged Public School . It thus became the first Chiefs College to

throw open its doors to all , irrespective of caste , creed or social status . Its

constitution was also accordingly amended and it was registered as a society

on 5th April , 1948.

In 1956 Mr. R.N. Zutshi became the first Indian Principal of the College . Its

students , both boys and girls , were drawn from all parts of India and even

abroad.

Owing to the national character of the college it changed its affiliation from

the State Board to the Central Board of Secondary School Certificate

Examination under the 10+2 scheme . The Board examination results of the

Daly College have been extremely good right from the beggining .
